Beth & Matt
In July 2013 Matt and Beth met online and talked every single day until Beth arrived in the United States two months later when they finally met in person at a Starbucks. Matt was really nervous and talked too much, and Beth was having a hard time understanding English, but they hit it off and in a few short days, they were dating.
For a period of 4 years Matt and Beth were physically apart, except for visits every 6 months. During the months apart, they skyped every single night! They used to have dinner “together” and celebrated birthdays including lighting and blowing out birthday candles on skype. They also did so many school projects and watched movies together. Thank goodness for SKYPE! They also sent each other packages and love letters. During this time, Matt worked hard to learn Portuguese so that he could ask Beth’s dad for his blessing to propose to her. It wasn’t easy, but not because of his Portuguese; Beth shared with me, “My father can be scary sometimes.”
On May 19, 2018, Matt and Beth said, "I Do" in the presence of their family and friends from all over the world. The ceremony was officiated by Vicki Turner at the The Planter's Club in the Sleepy Hole section of Suffolk, Virginia. When Vicki told their love story there was not one dry in the house. For Beth and Matt to overcome the barriers of language and distance is the true meaning of love and patience.
Beth chose lavender and silver for her color scheme. The linen and decor came from Distinctive Event Rentals, and the food was catered by County Grill in Hampton. A four tier lemon and lavender cake was fragrant and moist; that deliciousness of a dessert was made by Cakes By Crystal. The lovely flowers and alter piece were created by Mary's Flower Works.
The guests and wedding party danced well into the night; DJ service was provided by Gwin Entertainment. It was a wonderful wedding full of love and joy. The pictures were taken by Natalia, who traveled from Brazil. At the end of the night I was brought to tears because it was time to say goodbye. Providing Matt and Beth with my wedding services has been a highlight of my year.
